Early Roots and the Chino Connection
The story of Tim and Stephanie Downs began in Southern California. Tim spent his early years in Lakewood, enjoying summers in the backyard pool and at Seal Beach, before moving to Chino at age 13. Stephanie grew up in a dedicated family environment with her father, a Vietnam veteran, and her mother. Both Tim and Stephanie were varsity athletes, playing baseball and softball, and they share many fond memories of childhood trips to Lake Havasu, where they both loved to ski and jet ski.
High School Rendezvous
Their personal history traces back to Junior High, where an 8th-grade Tim first saw 7th-grade Stephanie. Though he was immediately struck by her, she was too shy to speak to him at the time. Their paths crossed again while walking to the softball field when Tim was a sophomore at High School. After Tim mentioned to a friend that he had always liked Stephanie, that friend asked Tim if he could give Stephanie a ride home. That single drive home started a relationship that has lasted over thirty years.
Choosing a Path Together
Shortly after high school, Stephanie’s parents asked her what she envisioned for her future. Her answer was simple and unwavering. She told them she simply wanted to get married and start a family. While the world often pushes for external accolades, Stephanie’s true dream was to be a wife and a mother. Tim was more than happy to help her fulfill that dream, as he shared that same vision for their future together. They were engaged in early that year and married in the summer of that same year.
In the early 90s, Tim joined the United States Air Force, a move that shifted his trajectory toward a life of discipline. He served as a Target Intelligence Specialist with a Top Secret clearance. During his service, he was assigned to the Missile Analysis Center under the US Space Command and NORAD. A pivotal moment occurred during basic training at Lackland AFB when a Training Instructor told a fellow Airman that if he couldn't hang his clothes in the proper order, she would never trust her life to an airplane he had worked on. This lesson on the high stakes of attention to detail became the foundation for Tim’s entire professional philosophy.
Building a Family and a Career
The newly married couple soon moved to Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. For two Southern California natives used to the Pacific coast, the move required a major adjustment as they learned to endure the sub-freezing conditions of the Nebraska Heartland. During this time, Tim gained his first exposure to using computers, an experience that would eventually lead him down a long road of technical support and systems management. He also had the unique opportunity to spend a day inside NORAD’s Cheyenne Mountain and fly to D.C. with a four-star Admiral on a temporary duty assignment.
Meanwhile, Stephanie began fulfilling her dream of motherhood. Their first child, was born while in Nebraska, a true Cornhusker Baby. After Tim's enlistment ended, the family returned to Southern California before moving to Arizona. Their family grew to include 4 children. Stephanie found extreme fulfillment in raising their four children, seeing their growth and happiness as the primary achievement of her life.
Professional Growth and the Move to Arizona
In 2003, Tim and Stephanie moved to Goodyear, Arizona. Tim transitioned into a distinguished 23-year career with the Department of Veterans Affairs. He eventually served as a Supervisory IT Specialist for the VA’s Enterprise Command Center, where he worked to ensure the reliability of healthcare systems for veterans nationwide. During his time with the VA, he also earned an MBA in IT Management as a secondary accomplishment.
As the children grew, Stephanie transitioned her nurturing instincts into a successful real estate career. For over 10 years, she has served as a strategic advocate for her clients, applying the same precision and care to their home buying and selling experience that she once applied to her home.
Community and Legacy in Goodyear
For over 20 years, the Downs family has lived in the Canyon Trails neighborhood in Goodyear. All four children graduated from Desert Edge High School, and Tim remained active in the local community through the Goodyear Little League. He served on the board for five years, including two years as League President, and enjoyed his time coaching, especially the season his team won the Majors Division Championship.
Today, the family legacy continues to grow. Tim and Stephanie’s greatest highlight is their role as Gramma and Grandpa. Their home remains a vibrant hub where their four grown children, their spouses and grandchildren gather to run wild in the backyard. From the disciplined environment of the Air Force and the VA to the intentional beauty of a growing family, Tim and Stephanie Downs continue to operate with the heart and attention to detail that started with a ride home from high school.
